Well I've decided no one really cares about summaries about boring books, so I've decided (and have been doing) my blogs differently. Instead of talking about what I read, I wanna discuss aspects that I found interesting and what you think.
So...
This week I saw the reccuring theme through chapter nine of people warning our main character Sethe to "not love something too much". I feel this is especially significant because our Sethe is a former slave. Why do you think "not loving something too much" would be an important lesson to Sethe? Do you agree that loving something too much is a bad thing? I have got my hopes up before, but I think if you love something it's probably worth it in the end even if you lose it. Just my opinion though. What do you think?
Love is very powerful, I think it is more powerful than hate. I think loving something too much that can hurt you. I also see how it pays off in the end, but sometimes people are too afraid of the times they get their heart broken to try at all.
ReplyDeleteI think that love can be done too much, and it doesnt always hurt one person. Sometimes you can smother someone if you love them too much, but other times you will hurt yourself when your love is unrequited. It's an important lesson to learn not love things too much because then you could begin to base yourself around them rather than yourself, which is always what should come first.
ReplyDeleteThanks to human logic, love is helpful and can really be hurtful. However, this all depends on whats happening. Say you love your spouse so much that you can overlook their adultery. In reality, love should be this; tough but nurturing, loving but not smothering, restricted but not prevented. Then again some of these things may be hypocritical. I have never picked the flower of love and considering the people who have said don't fall to deep in love probably didn't have a romantic relationship. Hmmm..... This is some weird stuff.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that writing a blog that is just a summary of what you just read is super boring. I much prefer a blog that discuss an idea in the literature like you do here.
ReplyDeleteDid you read my response to your blog about Seth and the danger of loving too much? I was just curious about what you thought. And I wondered if you checked out the video I linked there of Alfre Woodard (sp?) performing "Ain't I a Woman"?
